Frequently Asked Questions

How do you know if you need therapy?

Feeling you are out of your depth is a key indicator that it’s time to ask for help. Think of therapy when you feel trapped, with nowhere to turn, when it seems things aren’t getting better, when worry becomes chronic and never leads to any answers, or when emotional unease spills over and affects the way you eat or sleep, or takes a toll on your job or personal life.

The mind and body are closely connected, and some signs that therapy may be helpful are physical. Unexplained, often vague symptoms - fatigue, frequent headaches, backaches or other troublesome pains, frequent digestive upset, even pesky skin conditions can reflect depression, anxiety, or an increased level of stress. Such problems may accompany emotional distress or take its place.   When a thorough medical work-up finds nothing, consider a psychological explanation.

What can I expect during my first session?

When you arrive, you will be asked for any financial documentation that was requested, such as insurance cards, who is responsible for payments, etc. There will be some paperwork to fill out.

Your first session with the therapist will be different from future visits. The initial visit is a period for you and your therapist to get to know each other and determine whether you are a good fit for each other.

Keep in mind that psychotherapy is a long-term process. Although you may feel better after talking, please don’t expect any instant solutions to your problems the first day. Therapy is about equipping you with life-long solutions rather than a quick fix.

How long is each therapy session?

Typically, a session is 45-minutes. It is possible to arrange longer sessions if needed.

How do I pay for the session?

In some cases, insurance plans can help cover the cost of therapy. Check directly with your insurance company to inquire about your plan's coverage.

We accept payments in the form of cash, check or credit card at the time of service. If we are an in-network provider, you will be required to pay your co-pay or deductible (if applicable) at the time of service and your insurance will be billed accordingly.  Jennifer’s  In-network providers include Aetna, Blue-Cross Blue Shield, Anthem, UHC and UBH.
